Shelli is highly experienced in the Protection market, having held a number of sales focussed roles within the industry since 2007. Shelli joined Royal London as face-to-face BDM for the South West in 2014 and was subsequently promoted to Regional Distribution Manager for the South in 2017 and currently holds responsibility for a team of 8 BDMs. Shelli is a proud member of the Women in Protection Exec Committee which aims to help more female consumers buy protection insurance and encourage women to start and develop careers within the protection industry.
John Brazier is an experienced B2B journalist and editor. He took on the position of editor for COVER in February 2021.
John has spent over a decade working across various B2B editorial roles and markets, most recently in a freelance capacity reporting on gas and renewable energy, electric vehicles and power materials.
He was previously editor of The Trade, a buy-side publication for a readership of global asset managers, hedge funds and traders, a position he held for two years.
Prior to this, John spent three years with WatersTechnology, a fintech publication with a global audience, where he served as a European staff writer, before stepping up the role of deputy editor, working across the buy- and sell-side brands of the title.

Lisa Conway-Hughes is a Chartered Financial Adviser and a Fellow of The Personal Finance Society. Lisa joined the financial industry 16 years ago and in October 2020 was voted Financial Adviser of the Year – London by Professional Adviser Magazine – WIFA.

Lisa is passionate about making financial education open to all and loves taking the jargon out of the financial world. As Head of Underwriting Strategy Helen oversees the development of “all things underwriting” at AIG Life UK. With a passion for improving transparency in underwriting and building consumer trust Helen has been at forefront of demystifying underwriting through blogs, videos, webinars, podcasts and speaking at industry events. Helen is an active member of cross industry groups such as the Access to Insurance and ABI Mental Health Standards working groups which address industry underwriting challenges.
As Chair of the Assurance Medical Underwriting Society Helen is involved in educating underwriters as well as developing the next generation of underwriting professionals, and considering how to increase diversity in the underwriting pool.
Georgia has worked in Financial Services marketing for over 15 years and she loves all things marketing orientated. Georgia is passionate about promoting vital insurances to the people who need them the most by leading educationally focused marketing communications and campaigns. She has held senior marketing appointments at AXA, Holloway Friendly and National Friendly and during these roles has led award- winning rebrands, developed and executed marketing strategies, created traditional and social media campaigns and delivered many product launches. She also sits on the executive committee of the Women in Protection network. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and her fox red Labrador roaming around the countryside or visiting a spa.
With 35 years of financial services experience, Angela started her career at Barclays Bank, working 22 years before furthering her career as an independent mortgage and protection adviser. Progressing to become a business development manager at Royal London in 2014, and with Zurich in 2018, Angela started her own company ‘Passion for Protection’ in 2019 in which she provided protection sales training. Now settled into her new role as Head of Protection at Mortgage Intelligence, her mission is to support MI by fuelling great protection conversations that will result in more clients being protected.

Naomi started her career working in the corporate space of the Life Assurance sector in 2002, helping advisers understand the products available in the UK market whilst giving training and development on the benefits of personal and business products. In 2014 Naomi founded specialist brokerage Heath Protection Solutions, which offers Private Clients and Businesses whole of market advice on a full range of insurance solutions. In addition to running her own business Naomi has brought her deep understanding of the UK life assurance market to LDNfinance as Protection Director, where she supports the development of their protection advice to mortgage clients. Naomi has become an Ambassador for the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), working to raise awareness of the importance of protection products for women. She speaks at events in London on the education and guidance of young women and the importance of protecting their futures regularly appearing at events such as ‘She’s on the Money’. Recently awarded the Woman of the year in Protection Advice Award at the Women in Financial Awards 2019, Naomi looks to continue raising the awareness of the need for Protection Advice by supporting the education of both brokers and clients.
Peter has a background in Marketing, and has responsibility for Zurich’s engagement in Life industry issues. He is involved in consumer and regulatory developments in the protection and broader financial services market, and chairs the ABI's Retail Protection committee and the ABI’s Long Term Care Working party.
He sits on BIBA’s Access to insurance committee, and in July 2021 was appointed Disability and Access Ambassador for the Insurance industry, a post that reports through to the Disability Unit in the Cabinet Office.
Roshani Hill is the Assistant Director, Head of Protection and Health and is responsible for leading the ABI’s strategy and policy development on protection and health policy issues.
She joined ABI in September 2017 from Barclays, having joined in 2011 and was responsible for engaging with UK regulators (PRA/FCA/PSR) to optimise outcomes for Barclays. Primary focus was on Barclays UK businesses i.e. Mortgages, Personal Banking, UK Cards and Treasury. Prior to Barclays, Roshani worked at KPMG for 5.5 years.

I entered the financial world after completing my degree in Psychology , this wasn’t my chosen career but fell in love with the idea of being able to educate and help others in an area alien to them whilst making difference to their lives and families.
My father has passed away and I vividly remember asking him a few weeks before he passed what his biggest worry was to which he replied “leaving your mother with 5 children and no financial support”. At the time I didn’t realise how that one line would shape my career. I started my career in Banking and quickly moved to advice, first in general banking’ and within 3 months was promoted into Mortgage Advice covering a few branches across East London and becoming heavily involved with tied protection advice. This is where my love for protection advice first began and there was no looking back. I was Top performing mortgage advisers in London and received a certificate in our annual awards. I then moved from London to Yorkshire for personal reasons and began my career in independent protection advice.
Kathryn is a specialist insurance adviser working within the personal, business and group life insurance, critical illness cover and income protection sector. She offers advice within the UK and internationally. Kathryn is known for her ability to humanise protection conversations, bringing empathy to conversations with clients, where sensitive matters are being discussed. She also produces videos and a podcast that are used within the insurance sector, by charities and the general public, as a way to educate about ways to access insurance and to challenge mindsets.
Jo Miller has worked in the protection insurance industry for 12 years joining Protection Review in 2010, working latterly as Director of Operations overseeing the production and running of digital and face to face events. Additionally, Jo is also Co-Chair of the Income Protection Task Force (IPTF) which seeks to work across the protection industry to raise awareness of income protection insurance. Jo also provides operational support to the Protection Distributors Group helping the group to achieve better outcomes for consumers.
Rose joined Lloyds Banking Group in March 2021 as a Protection Director responsible for leading LBGs protection business across the intermediary, retail & digital channels.
Rose has over 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry in a diverse range of roles, her background as a financial advisor for 10 years has given her real customer insight, and by working with Asset Managers, Intermediaries, Brokers and Insurers, Rose has great knowledge of the insurance value chain.
Rose is a leading figure in the UK protection market and is recognised for her inclusive approach to customer delivery, winning several industry awards and being instrumental in the setting up and launching of the Women in Protection Network
Emma is Head of Protection & GI Propositions at Sesame Bankhall Group and has worked in the protection market for over 20 years. She has both provider and distributor experience as well as a strong reputation for campaigning for better consumer outcomes and is using that expertise to further strengthen SBG’s focus on helping more consumers access protection cover across both its Sesame and PMS brands. After being diagnosed with breast cancer and becoming a claimant herself in 2019, she’s become even more committed to helping consumers benefit from protection insurance. Emma has been an active member of various industry groups for many years, including the Income Protection Task Force and is a board member of the Protection Distributors Group. She’s also founder and Chair of the Women in Protection Network, an organisation established to support women working within the industry, to encourage more female consumers become more financially resilient and to help ensure our profession is more representative of the society it serves.
Johnny is the Principal of Johnny Timpson Consulting and has worked in the insurance industry for over 40 years in various distribution, marketing, technical and corporate affairs roles. The former and inaugural Cabinet Office Disability and Access Ambassador for the Insurance Industry and Profession plus founder of the Access to Insurance Working Group, he is a Commissioner for the Financial Inclusion Commission, member of the Financial Services Consumer Panel and Prime Ministers Champion Group for Dementia Communities. In addition, Johnny is an Ambassador for Grief Chat bereavement counselling, has Cii, Vocational Rehabilitation UK, Absolute Military, Settld and BlueZone expert advisory roles plus is also a member of GAIN (the Group for Autism, Insurance and Neurodiversity), the Building Resilient Households Group, Insurance Institute of London Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries Mental Health Working Group and BIBA Access To Insurance Committee.
Stuart has worked in the financial services market for over 35 years in a range of strategy, leadership and business development roles. He is a senior strategy and business development professional and general manager in financial services and has worked with life offices, friendly societies, reinsurers, retailers, banks, building societies and distribution/advice businesses.
In addition to this, Stuart worked at the ABI for nearly five years, in both policy and leadership roles. He led the Raising Standards initiative and spent a considerable amount of time negotiating with both the FSA and the European Commission. He is used to negotiating policy issues with regulators and to supporting the insurance market to maintain high ethical standards.
He joined Holloway in June 2016 as CEO and has driven the development and implementation of a new successful growth strategy for the business, resulting in a significant increase in membership and new business.
Stuart has considerable Board, ExCo and Management Committee experience and contributes regularly to industry wide developments. He is Vice Chair of the Association of Financial Mutuals, a member of the ABI Protection Board and a former member of the PRA Practitioner Panel Insurance Sub-Committee and a former Chair of ILAG.
Catherine has worked in the Financial Services Industry for over 30 years and is a highly respected and qualified individual who is proactive and has strong interpersonal skills. Sales Manager success has been gained by investing time in people through effective coaching and mentoring and creating the right environment in which people can excel.
Catherine is passionate about the protection industry and was one of the founding members of the Women in Protection network.
